Hyperspectral technology startup SPEX has closed a Pre-Series A round. Triangle Partners, E&Venture Partners, and JX Partners participated in the round.
SPEX develops high-resolution imaging spectroscopy that resolves and analyses hundreds of wavelengths at once. The technology spans terrestrial industry — semiconductor process monitoring among them — through to satellite-based Earth observation, and underpins observation solutions for precision agriculture, environmental monitoring, and national security.
Co-CEO Dr. Woong-Seob Jeong led the development of the Near-Infrared Imaging Spectrometer (NISS) at the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute and took part in NASA space telescope projects. Building on that experience, SPEX is bringing hyperspectral observation — long the preserve of a few large institutions — into the private sector.
The capital will go into R&D infrastructure and technological advancement. SPEX plans to grow by putting its hyperspectral cameras aboard commercial satellites and cubesats, and aims to become the global standard for hyperspectral solutions across both terrestrial industry and the satellite sector.
